Our FDA cleared Sperm Count Quality Control is the only sperm count QC on the market that contains human sperm.
Why is that important? Sperm have oval heads with a long tail. The overlapping and coiling tails cause visual confusion. Sperm surrogates such as latex beads do not mimic clinical specimens. Animal sperm is closer in appearance to human sperm but still looks different and acts differently in a counting chamber.
Other products often use the same concentrations every time. We think that QC concentrations should vary as patient sperm counts do, so our lot values fall within the clinically relevant range.
As with our other QC products, included with every lot is a Levey-Jennings chart showing the mean with color coded 3 SD limits above and below. This method of result plotting makes review for acceptability quick and trends easy to identify. Each plot can be used as documentation of QC performance and any needed corrective actions have a specific location on the back of the chart.
