Semen Analysis training has traditionally been expensive, in-person seminars or informal and typically unstructured or incompletely documented training by experienced technologists. The Wizards at Fertility Solutions have spent decades creating structured training materials to fill all of the needs of modern semen analysis at every level from clinical laboratory student, to lab technologist to physicians performing PPM. The information taught conveys modern best practices using accurate, uncomplicated and cost efficient methods that have been tested in our own laboratory.
We also offer companion materials to supplement procedural training that may be already in place at an institution. This includes didactic information about sperm and semen development, semen handling, good laboratory practices and helpful technique videos and tips. We also offer companion materials to labs that use semen analyzers or CASA to complete the fundamental information, as well as train the components the machine does not perform, such as volume, liquefaction evaluation, pH, sperm viability or post vasectomy. All of our training programs include complete, detailed documentation to demonstrate completion. Certificates of completion are also included in the cost of the programs.
After completing training in new methods (whether our training programs or other training), CLIA requires confirmation that the skills are being performed correctly prior to analyzing patient samples. We offer a complete line of Post Training Examination materials to test the abilities of the trainees and document compliance. Our Post Training Examinations page has more information about the types of materials that are available. Each exam type is sold individually so you can design a program that works for your needs. All examinations include a certificate of successful completion upon passing.

The Atlas of Sperm Morphology: A Rational Approach grew out of the need for a high quality sperm morphology atlas with explanations based on a rational, repeatable and defined method of sperm classification. There was also a need to make it easier to find examples of specific defects.
For years, traditional approaches to sperm morphology have relied on classification systems that define normal and abnormal forms. Technologists had to memorize these forms in order to recognize 'Normal' and 'Abnormal'. 'Borderline Normal' sperm were typically not mentioned or not given examples. This can result in highly subjective results that over time skew towards over-strictness until a sperm has to be perfect to be classified as normal. Eventually, everything looks abnormal!
With no order, justification or explanation for the classifications provided, diverse presentations and shape variations are difficult to categorize consistently. The previous atlases did not teach the features that typify the different abnormalities and borderline normal forms.
With A Rational Approach, we demonstrate a classification method that begins by looking for clear abnormal defects, then narrowing down to normal.

This product was designed to address a large problem for labs using automated semen analyzers: the lack of training regarding any part of semen analysis but using the machine. We have continually heard from our customers that the training they receive from machine manufacturers includes little to no fundamental didactic material.
